MHS provides quality used, brand new and refurbished pallet rack systems.
An efficient pallet rack system is an integral part of an optimized warehouse. There are several factors involved in maximizing cube utilization in a warehouse. Addressing pallet storage optimization early in the warehouse planning and design process is recommended.
Selective pallet racking is the most common pallet racking system in use today. Selective pallet racking is typically either manufactured in roll formed steel with pin connectors that lock in place or in structural steel with beams that will bolt to the uprights. Structural pallet rack is typically utilized in heavier duty applications where capacities need to be increased above and beyond what roll formed rack can provide.
Selective pallet rack systems provide easy accessibility to all pallet positions at all times – especially important if the inventory is rapidly depleted and restocked.
Selective pallet rack systems are commonly utilized in big-box distribution applications, as well as in retail store inventory rooms, cold storage applications, wholesale stores, etc.
Common components of selective pallet rack include the following:
Load beams (also called step beams or box beams). Most step beams are roll formed with a 1-5/8″ step. This step is utilized to hold any load support items such as pallet supports or wire decks. Box beams have no step, instead have four flat sides like a box. All load beams typically mount onto an upright frame column with integral rivets or hooks. Some systems utilize an extra clip or bolt to lock the beam to the upright.
Structural beams are hot formed structural C shapes with connecting clips at either end. Structural load beams are generally used with structural uprights but can be used with standard roll formed uprights. Structural load beams offer heavier weight capacities than step beams or box beams.

Selective pallet racking is the most common pallet racking system in use today. It provides easy accessibility to all pallet positions at all times, making it especially important when inventory is rapidly depleted and restocked. It’s commonly utilized in big-box distribution, retail store inventory rooms, cold storage applications, and wholesale stores.
Roll formed pallet rack is manufactured from flat coil stock steel formed into a modified ‘C’ shape. It’s typically lighter and works well for standard applications. Structural pallet rack uses hot-formed structural C shapes and is used in heavier-duty applications where load capacities need to exceed what roll formed rack can provide. Structural systems offer increased weight capacity.
Key components include: Load beams (step beams or box beams) that mount onto upright columns; Upright frames (typically 3″x3″ columns in 11-14 gauge steel, most commonly 42″ deep); Wire decking for safety and hand-stacking materials; and various connectors including pin connectors or bolted connections depending on the system type.
Wire decking is added to pallet rack for increased safety—it prevents materials from falling through the rack structure. It also allows for hand-stacking of materials on the rack levels, providing more flexibility in how you store different product types and sizes.
Yes, MHS has access to both new and quality used pallet rack uprights and components in both our service areas: the Phoenix, Arizona metro region and Northern California/Bay Area markets. Used rack can provide significant cost savings while still meeting your storage needs.
